MEA 112 - Medical Law and Ethics

Min Credits: 2

This course is an introduction to the principles of medical law and ethics as they apply to the healthcare worker and the healthcare environment. Information regarding sources of law and legal statutes, government regulations, malpractice, scope of practice, and ethical issues surrounding patient care are examined. Issues of treatment consent, patient confidentiality, and technology’s impact on the delivery of healthcare are addressed along. Emphasis will be placed on access, disclosure and tracking of protected health information and how the patient’s medical record serves as a legal document.
